Did you know April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month? We would like to take this time to inform our Sanford-Orlando area drivers about the dangers of distracted driving.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is informing law enforcement officers across the nation to look out for drivers who are texting or using their smartphone behind the wheel. The ‘U Drive. U Text. U Pay.’ high-visibility enforcement campaign, is now in its fifth year.

Back in 2016, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that about 3,450 people were killed in car accidents involving distracted drivers. This also includes people who were texting and driving.

To prevent any more tragedies due to distracted driving, drivers are advised to:

  • Turn off their cellphones or other electronic devices and put them out of reach before starting the vehicle.
  • Be good role models for teenage drivers—and don’t forget to set a good example behind the wheel!
  • If you’re a passenger and you see the driver using an electronic device while driving, be sure to speak up. As the passenger, you can make that phone call for them if it’s important.
  • Focus on your surroundings and watch out for pedestrians or bicyclists.
  • Always wear your seat belt no matter the distance you’re traveling.

If you have any questions about distracted driving, you can contact the team here at Nations Trucks. We’re always here to help out whenever we can!
